REFLECTIONS PAVILION
This Serpentine Pavilion is inspired by the famous inkblot drawings by Rorschach. Inkblots represent reflection, symmetry, one’s perception and evoke a personal emotion. The materials chosen for this design are meant to create contrast, a mirror material reflects the physical surroundings, while wood diffuses them. The additional greenery adds to the effect of symmetry in nature interacting with a symetrical form, as well as adds to the reflections of the park surroundings on the structures facade. During daytime the pavilion is illuminated by the sun, casting shadows and light reaching the center tree. On the facade the sunlight interacts with the iridescent mirrors of the pavilion creating intense beams of reflected light. At night the inkblot shape is outlined in linear strips of LED. When visitors arrive to the pavilion they will see their own reflections within the form, and will hopefully come to their own conclusions on how they interpret what they see and feel about their surroundings.
